Drip Depot raised bed kits are designed to make it easy to install a professional drip irrigation system. Our kits come complete with everything you need to create a working drip irrigation system and hook it up to any standard water faucet or garden hose.

Our raised bed kits are designed to accommodate a practice known as square foot gardening where small areas are very densely planted. With this being said our kits will be able to handle the most densely planted raised beds with ease as each kit is designed for maximum water coverage. We list the number of beds that each kit can outfit. This bed number is based on a bed size of 8 ft. x 4 ft. However, each kit can be easily adapted to fit any size or shape of bed.

The following useful guide was written to help you choose the right kit for you. It will show you how to design your own drip irrigation system, gather the necessary parts and information and it will show you which kit to choose to suit your particular gardening needs. 

Step 1: Gather Information

To help ensure that you gather all the critical information needed to successfully choose and install a raised bed drip irrigation kit we created a list of questions below that will act as an information-gathering guide. 

Questions to Answer:

1. How many raised beds do you wish to water? 

Each kit comes with one tee, one end cap, and two elbows for every bed listed. It is important to write down the number of each fitting needed based on the number of beds you want to water. For example if you wish to water 3 beds then you would need 3 tees, 3 ends caps and 6 elbows. ,

2. What are the dimensions of each bed you wish to water? 

1/4” dripline is utilized in our Raised Bed kits. Installation can vary depending on how you plant your beds. We have designed our kits with enough components to accommodate a method known as Square Foot Gardening. For example, a bed that is 8’ x 4’, we would run 3 parallel lines of 1/4” dripline 8 ft in length and spaced 12 inches apart down each bed. By doing this it creates a water grid across the bed and regardless of where your plants are, they all will get watered.

Using 1⁄4” drip line is an easy, quick, and economical way to drip irrigate raised beds. The one limitation to using 1⁄4” drip line is run length. 1⁄4” drip line is like any other 1⁄4” micro tubing in that you can not exceed 30 ft for a single run. If no bed is over 30 ft in length then this is not a concern for you. If you do have a raised bed that is longer than 30 ft then you may consider running your your 1⁄2” main across the middle of the bed and running the 1⁄4” dripline from either side of the mainline tubing, thereby cutting the run lengths by half. 

3. How much 1⁄4” dripline will you need? 

Our kits are designed to use a header row of 1⁄2” tubing along one side of your raised bed. The next step is to tap into the header row and run 1⁄4” dripline perpendicular to the header row, the length of the bed. We recommend spacing the 1⁄4” dripline rows 12” apart. For example: if you have a raised bed with dimensions of 8 ft x 4 ft and the header row is placed on the 4 ft side of the bed, you would then have 3 - 8ft rows of 1⁄4” dripline. Meaning that you need a total of 24ft of 1⁄4” dripline per bed. Calculate the amount of 1⁄4” dripline needed per bed and then add the amount per bed to find the total amount of 1⁄4” dripline needed for your raised bed project. (Note: for 1⁄4” tubing the run length must be under 30 ft.) 

4. What is the distance from your water source to your last raised bed to be watered? 

This will help you to determine the amount of mainline tubing that you will need to go from your water source to each bed. 

Step 2: Create a Sketch 

Once you have answered the questions in Step 1 we recommend creating a sketch of your project area. We have found that a sketch helps to visualize the area and ensures that you have not overlooked any details, which may result in not ordering enough parts or incorrect parts the first time. We have enclosed a sample sketch of a project to show the details that you want to provide in your sketch. 

Step 3: Use your information to choose the right kit. 

Now that you have gathered your information and created a sketch of your project area it is time to use that information to choose the best raised bed kit for you. Below is a chart that lists the quantities of important items in each of our raised bed kits. Start in column 1 and work your way to the right by choosing the quantity that best matches your results. When you have finished with each column look to find the kit that best matches your needs.

Although installing your own professional drip irrigation system might sound difficult, it is actually very easy. In fact, many of our customers who were apprehensive at first, found the installation process was very easy and took less time than they thought thanks to our kits.
